How cashback sites actually pay
None of these three is a survey panel. You click through from the cashback site (or its extension/app), buy from the retailer as normal, then wait for the sale to track as pending and later become payable once returns windows close and the retailer pays commission. That confirmation step — not the final PayPal click — is usually the long wait. Insurance, broadband and finance deals can sit for months; everyday shopping is often weeks.
Tip: turn off coupon extensions that hijack affiliate cookies, keep order confirmations, and open a missing-cashback claim if tracking fails within each site’s claim window.
TopCashback
Membership
TopCashback’s Classic vs Plus page (fetched 5 Nov 2026) states Classic is free. Plus deducts a £5 annual admin fee from earnings in return for extras such as higher Reward Wallet payout bonuses, a £25 Tell-a-Friend bonus (vs £20 on Classic) and Plus-only promotions. If you earn under £5 payable cashback in a Plus year, the shortfall can roll into the next year’s deduction — nothing is taken from your bank.
Minimum and methods
TopCashback’s help answer “What is the minimum amount that I can request in a payout?” states you can request a payout via BACS, PayPal or Reward Wallet for any amount over 1p. Gift-card minimums can differ by retailer. Homepage FAQ text (fetched 5 Nov 2026) also lists bank, PayPal and gift cards (with a possible gift-card bonus of up to 20%).
PayPal fees: TopCashback’s help states members do not pay PayPal fees on cashback payouts. Timing: once TopCashback processes a PayPal request (often the next working day), funds should appear in PayPal almost straight away; weekends and bank holidays can delay processing.
Terms also note a 72-hour delay before you can request cashback after changing payment details, and that you may only request one payout option in any 24-hour period (TopCashback Terms, cashing-out section).
Choose TopCashback if you want the lowest published cash minimum and a free Classic tier, and you are happy comparing rates retailer-by-retailer.
Quidco
Membership
Quidco Premium (fetched 5 Nov 2026): Basic is free. Premium retains £1 from cashback in any month you shop and earn cashback; inactive months are not charged, and Quidco says it never charges your bank. Premium marketing includes up to 25% higher cashback on selected retailers, gift-card withdrawal boosts, a £25 referral reward for qualifying friends, an ad-free browse, and a 3-month free trial for new members (confirm live trial terms when you join).
Minimum and methods
Quidco’s help article How do I withdraw cashback? (dated 23 September 2026; fetched 5 Nov 2026) lists bank transfer (BACS, described as free), PayPal and retailer gift cards. Minimum for BACS and PayPal: £1. Gift-card minimums vary.
Timing from How long does a withdrawal take? (fetched 5 Nov 2026): payments run on working days; request by midnight the night before to catch the next run. Standard PayPal: same day by 3pm on the payment-run day. BACS: 5 working days after the run. First use of new bank/PayPal/gift-card brand details adds a 48-hour security hold.
Choose Quidco if £1 is still a comfortable minimum, you want clear published PayPal timing, or Premium’s monthly £1-from-earnings model suits how often you shop.
Rakuten (UK)
Membership and methods
Rakuten UK is free to join. Help on choosing payment methods lists Bank Transfer or PayPal (set in Account Settings; payment details are not shared across multiple Rakuten accounts).
Minimum and schedule
Rakuten UK help “When will I get paid?” states you need at least £5.01 confirmed cashback by the end of a month to be paid on the 15th of the following month; balances of £5.00 or less carry over. Once sent, payments typically arrive within 5 business days. You must also select a payment method and add an address for identity checks.
Note on sourcing: on 5 Nov 2026, opening rakuten.co.uk/help/…when-will-i-get-paid from this environment redirected into a US marketing shell. The £5.01 / 15th-of-month schedule above is taken from the UK help article text returned by search indexes for that same URL (and independently summarised by UK cashback comparison pages citing the same help centre). Treat the live Account Settings / payment schedule in your logged-in UK account as the final check before you rely on a date.
Choose Rakuten if you prefer automatic monthly payouts once you clear £5.01 confirmed and you do not need on-demand micro-withdrawals.
Which should you use?
- Want the lowest published cash minimum: TopCashback’s over-1p BACS/PayPal/Reward Wallet threshold (official help).
- Want documented same-day PayPal after a working-day payment run: Quidco’s timing help (by 3pm on the run day, after any first-time hold).
- Want set-and-forget monthly pay: Rakuten’s £5.01 confirmed → 15th of next month schedule (UK help text).
- Best rate on a specific retailer: open all three before you buy — none of the fee pages above prove a permanent “always highest rate” winner.
Many UK shoppers keep TopCashback and Quidco and check both (plus Rakuten) before large baskets. Rates and missing-transaction rules change; the comparison that matters is the one on the retailer page five minutes before you pay.
FAQ
Do I need Plus or Premium?
No. Classic (TopCashback) and Basic (Quidco) are free. Paid tiers only make sense if the extra cashback and bonuses on the shops you actually use beat the £5/year or £1/active-month deduction — do that sum with real basket sizes, not marketing maxima.
Is pending cashback withdrawable?
No. TopCashback’s terms describe pending → confirmed → payable before withdrawal. Quidco and Rakuten likewise pay on confirmed/payable balances. Pending is a tracking status, not money in your pocket.
Can I use referral / invite bonuses?
Often yes, but amounts and qualifying rules change. HonestPayouts will only publish live referral links after Damian reviews each programme’s terms. Until then, join via the official sites linked above with no referral code from us.
Does cashback count for UK tax?
Shopping cashback on your own purchases is often treated differently from paid-survey income, but large refer-a-friend bonuses and similar can blur lines. See our side hustle tax / trading allowance guide and HMRC’s pages — this is not tax advice.
